History of Music at the Olympics

Music Provides the Rhythm for Olympic Competition
  •  From 1912 until 1948, participants could enter the Olympic Games as an artist.  From the beginning of the modern Games in 1896, it was the intention of founder Baron Pierre de Coubertin that the arts were to play an integral part in the Olympic competitions.  Participants could receive medals in painting, drama, sculpture, literature, architecture, and music! MIRROR MYSTERY

Let's get ready for Opera for the Young, coming in April with
"The Barber of Seville"
by playing "The Mirror Mystery Game"

Tuesday night at 6:30 pm

UW-Baraboo Campus/Community Choir under the direction of Deanna Horjus-Lang, Susan Lappin, accompanist.

A reminder that the spring semester of choir began tonight.  Even if the weather was frightful, the singing was delightful!  Lots of new repertoire to learn including a super fun 4-hand piano piece.  Let's get going!

The Family Lappin

Clockwise:  Andrea, Ruprecht, Ms. Lappin, Mary, Nichole, Tom, Ben, Sam & Max
With two snow/cold days off, I've been thinking about Spring Break.  Who wouldn't?  I already have tickets to NYC to visit Sam.  The last time I was there was 2010 with the Baraboo HS Band.  Sam has been to Wisconsin twice since then, so it's my turn.  This was the last time all four boys were together.

The Grammy Awards

I watched the Grammys last night.  Earlier in the day I had acquired the 2014 Nominees CD, so for a change I was prepared.  I was not prepared to hear one of my favorite bands from the 60's and 70"s Chicago.  I love Chicago!  They started out as a solo group, but then Robin Thicke joined the ensemble.  But all was well, none of that funky stuff from a couple shows back.  I have played this video at least 6 times today and am still not tired of it, so take a look!

"Who Doesn't Love a Showtune?"

Susan Lappin, Mike Powers, Katie James, Melisa Skwor, Jordan Peterson

This was the program/concert presented at the Portage Center for the Arts on January 18, 2014.  What a great cast of singers! I hope we can repeat the show in Baraboo.

Wisconsin Singers

I filled in for Connie Burton tonight.  She was scheduled to accompany the JYMS Choir directed by Mrs. Harmony Klingenmeyer.  Connie's daughter, Emily, delivered a baby girl today!  I was happy to fill in for Mrs. Burton.  I played 3 songs:  "California Dreamin'", "When Johnny Comes Marching Home", and "I Won't Grow Up."  Thank you, Mrs. Gunnell, for turning pages for me.  They JYMS Choir was one of the opening acts for "The Wisconsin Singers."  Click on the link below:

A new beginning.

It's been some time since I've written.  Sorry about that!
Let's get the new year started with some new posts.

Max and I had a fantastic trip to Christchurch, New Zealand in August 2013.  Scott Lappin and his wife, Gayle, have lived there since 2011.  This picture is from our first day there.  No worries:  I will post more great pictures soon.
